Hollywood Actor’s Investment Misgivings

Woody Harrelson recently disclosed missing a chance to invest in tech mogul Elon Musk‘s electric vehicle powerhouse Tesla Inc. TSLA, revealing it as a substantial financial error on his part.

What Transpired:

In a conversation with Marketwatch as reported on Friday, Harrelson acknowledged turning down an investment opportunity in Tesla before its initial public offering.

During the encounter, a member of Musk’s team arrived at Harrelson’s residence in a stunningly high-performing automobile, offering him the chance to invest in the company. Despite the enticing proposition, Harrelson declined, now considering it one of his most significant investment missteps. The actor admitted to harboring other investment regrets besides missing out on the Tesla opportunity.

“This guy came up to the house and he had this really fancy, superfast car. Almost like a race car. Not an actual race car, but it was like a Ferrari-type car and it was super fast. We took a ride in it. He’s like, ‘You want to invest [in the company]?’ And I’m like, ‘Nah, I don’t think so.’

The “Ferrari-type car” Harrelson alluded to in the interview likely hints at Tesla’s inaugural vehicle, the original 2008 Roadster.

Significance:

Established in 2003, Tesla eventually went public in 2010. Upon its debut on the Nasdaq stock exchange on Jun. 29, 2010, Tesla shares concluded the day at a split-adjusted price of $1.59.

With Tesla shares wrapping up at $214.11 on Friday, the figure suggests a whopping 135-fold increase in valuation since its introduction. The company’s stock even soared past $400 in November 2021.

Nevertheless, year-to-date records indicate a 13.8% decline in the stock, according to data sourced from Benzinga Pro.
